At the end of each year the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Of The United States (SCOTUS) issues an end of year report on the judicial branch of the federal government. This year was no different, but while news agencies are reporting of how Chief Justice Roberts warns of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the report is more than that. There are about 6 pages from the Chief Justice about the state of the judicial branch and it does include mentions of AI. However, the rest of the 13 pages are facts and figures about what types of cases the federal courts dealt with, including how the Supreme Court had less cases filed than the previous year and only 68 cases were argued in front of the Supreme Court during the last term. This is interesting, because as pundits (and some members of Congress) are claiming the Supreme Court is invalid seeing the numbers of types of cases that are brought to the federal court, at all levels, it shows that the lower courts are handling an enormous amount and the majority are not being appealed to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court does not automatically agree to hear every appeal, certain conditions must be met before a case can be heard before the Supreme Court. As always, instead of listening to the media and legal pundits talk about the 2023 Report, read it for yourself (see below).
